Research: Task One

Cover One: Metal Hammer: Rob Halford
1. Rob Halford is on the cover. A medium close-up shot is used. He is represented as a fun person, but with also a slight aggressive side, like the typical rock singer. He is also shows to have a soft side, almost contrasting his personality as a singer to his personality as a person outside of the music world. This can be seen by the black colour scheme which have connotations of aggressiveness and almost evil, which is juxtaposed to his fun facial expression, with his tongue out, and the kittens in his hands.
2. The cover lines include topics such as animals, witchcraft, blood.
3. The colour scheme of black, yellow, and white, has connotations of aggression and violence, as well as happiness, and purity, highlighting how different the cover star, Rob Halford is as a singer and as a person.
4. The masthead is at the top, underneath a cover line, and goes behind the Rob Halford's head. It uses a sans serif font to appeal to the younger audience, and seem less formal.
5. There is one image.
6. There are 11 coverlines used?
7. All of the information is in the bottom left, out the way of everything else. It contains credits for the companies related to the magazine, as well as the barcode and price.
8. There are about 3 different fonts used to highlight information, and showing importance of the text. The masthead is in very bold text to stand out, and the main cover line is in a very jagged font.
9. There is no puff, and the only shape used is the white rectangle in the bottom left to highlight the information.
Contents Page:
1. The contents page contains pictures of various artists all around the outside of both pages. The images have the artists name in the corner, as well as the page number. Some of the artists it contains include Judas Priest (Rob Halford cover star), Bring me the Horizon, and Chelsea Wolfe. It has a good balance between showing off multiple featured artists, without it looking too crowded. The centre contains 'CONTENTS' in a bold sans serif font. Beneath this, is a list of topics in the magazine, categorised by 'Front Row', 'Features', 'Albums', and 'Lives'.
2. 9 Images of artists are used, most being a similar size. They are anchored to the text as they have page numbers, so it is easy to find the article relating to that artist.
3. About 4 different fonts are used. One, is 'Contents' Written all in capitals and a sans serif font, with slight spots of white in it. Another font used in a serif font within the contents, showing the artists names.
4. The text is organised in a clump in the centre. Artists names are in bold blocked capitals to stand out.
Articles:
1. The article of Judas Priest's Rob Halford contains one large image of him on the right page, accompanies by lots of writing on the left. This is the same with the Bring me the Horizon page, however it also includes an image of them on a stage that is on fire.
2. On most pages, 2-3 images are used.
3. Three different fonts are used. Most of the articles are written in a very small, serif font. This serif font is made italic at the mention of names albums or songs.
4. There aren't many subheadings, but it is paragraphed.
5. The colour schemes are mostly dark colours.

Cover Two: KERRANG!: Green day

1. Green Day is on the cover, and a mid shot is used. He is represented as a typical rockstar, with black hair, and dark clothes. Furthermore, his makeup gives him dark eyes, further showing this stereotype.
2. The cover features cover lines about film and music.
3. The green in the colour scheme has been used to link the cover star, green day. The gradient background allows him to stand out. The yellow has been used to highlight the smaller text, and to get the audience to look at it.
4. The masthead is on the top, in a font that makes it look like it has almost shattered / broken.
5. Two images are used on the front cover.
6. There are about 5 cover lines used.
7. The institutional information is in the bottom right corner.
8. There are about 5 different fonts. One of them is a serif font, whereas the others are sans serif, and some are shown to seem dirty / destroyed, showing connotations of violence, which links to the stereotypes of a rock band.
9. Puffs have been used to highlight the extra information that the magazine covers.
