L/O: to explore the process of film making.
Production - The making of a film.
Distribution - How people can watch a new movie, and which cinema chains or streaming services can get it.
Marketing - How a movie gains publicity through adverts and reaches its target audience.
Exhibition - An experience relating to a movie?
Some big film companies (Conglomerates) will complete all three processes for a film themselves.
This is known as Vertical integration.
E.G:
1. Warner Bros produces it
2. Warner bros distributes it using Time Warner Companies (companies owned by warner bros.)
3. Warner Village Cinemas get the first rights and a longer time to show it than other cinemas.
This allows Warner Bros to make much more money, as they don't have to pay as much to external companies.
Pre-Production - Script writing, casting, set designing - planning stage Create costumes, find locations, hire crew, create production schedule
Production - Filming
Post Production - Editing, advertising, fix any mistakes, add visual effects, adjust colour grades and mix audio
Producers have to:
Convince investors that a film we be successful to get them to fund it.
Secure the rights to a screenplay.
Manage the crew, cast and actors.
Manage location, equipment and schedules.
Manage any problems that occur.
Because there is so much to do, most films have an executive production team who delegate specific production jobs to other production companies.
e.g: If they are shooting part of a film in a different country, then a local production team would come on board to manage the shoot under the instruction of the executive team.

Marketing and Promotion
L/O: To explore the marketing methods of No Time To Die.
The delayed release of No Time to Die was an issue for the team behind the movie, because they had to keep people interested in it. Because it was delayed by over a year, old adverts and marketing campaigns would have been forgotten by the audience.
Another reason that it was a problem was because of the money issues. It cost between $30 - $50 million USD to push the release back from April 2020 to November 2020; and that was only one of the delays. There were two more delays before it was finally released in September 2021. Furthermore, money spent on adverts and marketing would have been completely wasted, as audiences would not still remember it over a year later.
A third reason that it was a problem, was due to James Bond's image of always having new, and up to date technology. Over its time being delayed, lots of new things would have been created. and would make the technology in No Time To Die seem outdated.
Some promotion for No Time To Die includes teasers, trailers, and collaborations with other brands or companies.
Some brands with the film include Aston Martin and Adidas, Heineken, Omega, Land Rover.
These would benefit both brands. For example, Aston Martin would give cars to the production of No Time To Die, in return for being in the film, and being in adverts for the film.

No Time To Die's intro was created by Billie Eilish, who is under a record label owned by Universal, allowing the film to keep its vertical integration.
On the week leading up to the release, there was a Bond Radio, that played songs from James Bond films 24/7.

3a) EON Productions produced No Time to Die.
3b) Media convergence is the process by which media technologies are brought together into one computerised device. For example, smartphones can do the jobs which newspapers, GPS and telephones used to accomplish separately.
3c) A conglomerate company that owns other companies involved in media - 1 mark
Refer to a conglomerate example or the benefits of being a conglomerate in terms of production for profit and control of production. - 2 marks
3d) Target 3: More examples and more coverage of all marketing methods and distribution,
Another way that the film industry uses different platforms for marketing through the use of the movie's music. For example, In No Time To Die, Billie Eilish created the soundtrack for it. Because she is a well known artist, with an audience of mostly younger people, and so it brings in new fans to both parties, as James Bond fans will be more likely to listen to Billie Eilish, and Billie Eilish's fans will be more likely to watch No Time To Die. Furthermore, the Bouer Radio Station had a station dedicated to James Bond music, in the week leading to No Time To Die's release. This created a sense of excitement around the upcoming film, and brought in both older fans and younger fans, of people tuning in for the nostalgia, or because the songs are by artists that they enjoy. This meant that the audience for the film was extremely wide, and people may watch the film, even if they hadn't watched previous James Bond films, or been hardcore fans of the series.
4b) Another way The Archers target audiences is through the large range of different characters and storylines, which ensures that the audience is always interested in the show.
4c) One reason that audiences visit The Archers website is to gain information and personal identity. Audiences can do this because the website features lots of facts about storylines, and characters. This allows the audience to resonate and relate to characters within the show, creating a sense of personal identity. Furthermore, the website allows the audience to catch up, if they have never listened to The Archers before, or fans from a long time ago, wanting to catch up with what they missed.
